STAYING SMART AS SELF-DEFENCE!
Butterflies are widely pursued by birds and reptiles. To ensure their survival, they have developed ways
of outsmarting nature. Some of them have become masters in the art of camouflage, melting into the surrounding
environment (leaf, bit of stick, etc.). On the other hand, others use strong colours to show that they are toxic
(or to make predators believe this). Being covered in urticant hairs (processionary caterpillar, Hylesia metabus)
is also a deterrent. Last of all, why not pass of as something else (wasp, snake, owl, etc).
